The Ware Co. Cross Country program hosted 10 teams on Thursday in the Swamp for their first meet of the 2021 season. The teams attending were Bacon Co., Ben Hill (Fitzgerald), South Effingham, Effingham, Glynn Academy, Camden, Brantley, Brunswick, Atkinson, Long Co. and Ware. The girls race had a total of 78 runners and the boys race hosted 120 runners for the day. The Lady Gators placed 3rd overall as a team and the Gators placed 11th. The top 5 girls were Selena Ocadiz (11th grade) placing 6th with a time of 23:17, Keeli Holloway (11th grade) placing 9th with a time of 24:01, Evie Brown (11th grade) placing 16th with a time of 26:15, Samantha Saviono Rios (10th grade) placing 25th with a time of 27:58, and Lindsy Moore (9th grade) placing 37th with a time of 29:31. The top 5 boys were Jon Robertson (11th grade) placing 44th with a time of 21:36, Corbitt Nettles (9th grade) placing 86th with a time of 25:18, Wyatt Deal (10th grade) placing 90th with a time of 26:32, Landon Nettles (10th grade) placing 92nd with a time of 26:35, and Gavin Bennett (10th grade) placing 103rd with a time of 27:46.
The Gators will be traveling to the Jekyll Island Invitational next Saturday 9/4/21 which will be held at the Great Dunes golf course.
