Ware County Cross Country: Region 1-AAAAA Championship Hosted by Greenbriar High School 10/27/22

The Ware County cross country teams competed in the Region 1-AAAAA Championship Thursday held at Wildwood Park in Appling GA, hosted by Greenbriar HS. To qualify for the state championship next weekend each team had to place in the top 4. The Lady Gators ran first @ 2:00 PM and placed 3^rd overall in the 6-team region scoring 73 points. There were 39 runners in the Girls race. Standout performances for the lady Gators include Samantha Savinon-Rios (11^th grade) who placed 3^rd overall with a time of 21:00. This places Samantha on the Region 1-AAAAA All Region team. Selina Ocadiz (12^th grade) placed 7^th overall with a time of 21:51 and Keeli Holloway (11^th grade) placed 8^th overall with a time of 22:29 earning the Lady Gators 3 spots in the top 10. Finishing the varsity line-up for the Lady Gators were Madison Donlon (9^th grade) placing 27^th with a time of 27:53, Evie Brown (12^th grade) placing 28^th with a time of 27:57, Olivia Sanders (10^th grade) placing 29^th with a time of 28:10, and Alondra Rios-Rangel (10^th grade) placing 33^rd with a time of 29:56.

The Gator ran at 2:45 PM and placed 4^th overall scoring 105 points and earning their first state qualifying race in the past 4 years. There were 42 runners in the Boys race. The Gators had 1 runner in the top 10, freshman Caleb Wise placed 8^th overall with a time of 19:14. Also running for the gators were Jon Robertson (12^th grade) placing 19^th with a time of 20:17, Kamani Gainer (11^th grade) placing 21^st with a time of 20:23, Zy Ramsey (11^th grade) placing 26^th with a time of 20:55, Hayden Clement (10^th grade) 31^st with a time of 21:18, Landon Hendrix (12^th grade) placing 38^th with a time of 22:14, and Jesus Oropeza (11^th grade) placing 42^nd with a time of 24:46.

The GHSA State Cross Country Championship will be next Friday and Saturday at Carrollton High School. The AAAAA Boys race will be held on Saturday 11/5 at 2:00 PM and the AAAAA Girls race will be held on Saturday 11/5 at 2:45 PM.
