Ware County Cross Country: GHSA 4A Sectional 1 11/2/24 Hosted by Jones County High School

The Ware County Gator and Lady Gator cross country teams competed in the GHSA 4A Section 1 meet held at Jones County High School on Saturday 11/2/24. The purpose of this meet was to determine which teams and individuals would qualify and move on to the GHSA 4A State Championship on Saturday 11/9/24. The top 12 boys teams and girls teams qualify as a team and the top 20 individuals in each race qualify for state as individuals. The boys race began at 9:00 AM and there were 26 teams competing. The Gators placed 18th overall as a team in the meet. The Lady Gators placed 18th out of 20 teams competing in the girls race. There were 183 runners in the boys race. Running for the Gators were Caleb Wise (11th grade) whop placed 48th with a time of 17:55, Josh Smith (10th grade) placing 71st with a time of 18:37, Brayten Hood (9th grade) placing 104th with a time of 19:41, Da’Marion Zanders (11th grade) placing 139th with a time of 20:58, Brock Payne (9th grade) placing 141st with a time of 21:00, Wesley Frye (11th grade) placing 153rd with a time of 22:07, and Silas Mixon (10th grade) placing 154th with a time of 19:41. The girls race had 138 runners finish. Running for the Lady gators were Destiney Mendoza (11th grade) placing 53rd with a time of 23:50, Olivis Sanders (12th grade) placing 89th with a time of 26:23, Kiyoko Ward (9th grade) placing 113th with a time of 28:14, Madison Donlon (11th grade) placing 131st with a time of 34:43, and Kali Patten (9th grade) placing 132nd with a time of 34:44. Congratulations goes out to Caleb Wise and Destiney Mendoza for making the first team all region! To achieve this designation the runners had to place in the top 7 from the teams in our region (Region 1 4A). Caleb Wise placed 6th out of our region and Destiney Mendoza placed 3rd out of our region. The Gators placed 3rd as a team in our region behind Benedictine and Warner Robins, and the Lady Gators placed 3rd as a team in out region behind Wayne Co. and Perry. There were no state qualifiers for the Gators or Lady Gators this season. This race concluded the 2024 season.
